True Story …

IDIOT SIGHTING:

I was at the airport, checking in at the gate when an airport employee
asked, ‘Has anyone put anything in your baggage without your knowledge?’
To which I replied, ‘If it was without my knowledge, how would I know?’
He smiled knowingly and nodded, ‘That’s why we ask.’

Smile !

Harry came home from Sunday school and asked his mother, “Do people really come from dust?” “In a way said,” said his mother. “And do they go back to dust?” “Yes, in a way.” She replied. “Well, mother, I looked under my bed, and somebody’s either coming or going.”

Idiot Sightings !

I live in a semi rural area. We recently had a new neighbour call the local
township administrative office to request the removal of the DEER CROSSING
sign on our road. The reason: ‘Too  many deer are being hit by cars out
here! I don’t think this is a
good place for them to be crossing anymore.’

Welcome to Georgetown Online

Georgetown Online is a free website that was created by Colin Ming and Don Fendley. The site has been serving Georgetownians for over 10 years. Colin dropped out a few years ago and Don has recently turned over the day to day running of the site to Al Darby (Website and Message Board) and Bonnie Courchesne (Photo Gallery, aka the Vault), but fear not, he’s still with us.
The Don Patrol Lives!

In 2006 and 2007, it played a major role in getting the Homecoming 2007 Reunion off the ground and is responsible for a several hundred reconnects of old friends.

The site is extremely popular and is visited thousands of times annually, by past and present residents. Members are spread all round the globe and all are fiercely loyal to our online community.

It boasts a Message Board, with hundreds of members that have over time, rehashed most of the history of Georgetown (and its neighbours, the Glen, Norval, Erin, etc., etc.).

It also hosts an almost unequalled repository of photos and ephemera, including practically every yearbook produced by GDHS (even when it was only GHS).

The Message Board and Photo Gallery can be found in the Quick Links left.

We hope you enjoy your time with us, so take your time and visit as many pages as you can while you’re here. Finally, visit the Guest Book page and let us know about your visit.

Fun & Games

Georgetown Fall Fair

The Fall Fair was started in 1846. It is held the Friday to Sunday following the Labour Day Weekend. The annual event is held at the Georgetown Fairgrounds and comprised mainly of carnival rides and rural contests, such as the tractor pull and demolition derby.

The Georgetown Agricultural Society is committed to community involvement in education and raising awareness of our agricultural base.

The Fall Fair also achieved national coverage in 2003 when a controversial riot broke out between the youth of Georgetown (approx 500) and the Halton Regional Police force(approx 50-100). There were several teens arrested and at least another half a dozen shot by rubber bullets during the riot. No major property damage occurred, only a portion of a small white picket fence was damaged. The entire event was resolved before anything got too far out of hand, and the Fair has been able to run conflict free ever since.

A Bit About Our Region – Ballinafad

BALLINIFAD

Ballinafad, as with much of the surrounding communities in Southern Ontario, came into being because of political and social upheavals in the late 1700’s and early 1800’s.

Ballinifad General Store – a throw back to the 1950s!

The American War of Independence saw upwards of 100,000 people leave the American colonies to more familiar and comfortable British ruled territories. Roughly 10,000 people, including native peoples and black Americans, chose to trek north.

Ballinafad, a small community of approximately 800 which straddles Trafalgar Rd. North, is an excellent case in point.
